Innovation delivers 360° lifting with no compromise on aerodynamics or fuel efficiency.
Mac’s Truck Sales has developed a patented hidden front leg system for the new Volvo FH Aero – the first of its kind, designed specifically to preserve the truck’s aerodynamic profile while enabling full 360° lifting capability around the vehicle.
Following 18 months of engineering, testing, and collaboration with the approval of Volvo, the system made its public debut at a Mac’s open day in Huddersfield earlier this month. It builds on Mac’s pioneering work with similar hidden leg systems for DAF XG, XF and XD models, now extended to Volvo’s flagship FH Aero truck.
Unlike conventional stabiliser legs housed externally, Mac’s unique design integrates seamlessly behind the front grille and engine bay.
“You can’t see the system – only the legs peeking out below the bumper,”
explains Andrew Hall, Technical Director at Mac’s.
“Most importantly, it doesn’t interfere with the Aero’s aerodynamics, so operators retain the fuel savings and sleek look Volvo originally designed it for.”
The Volvo FH Aero promises up to 5% greater efficiency compared with the standard model. By preserving those gains, Mac’s system ensures crane truck fleet operators don’t have to choose between performance and fuel economy.
At the launch, Mac’s demonstrated the hidden legs with a FASSI F990 84.3T/M crane carrying four tonnes across the front and rear zones.
“The patented legs give better performance than anything else on the market,”
Hall adds.
“The transition from rear to front is incredibly stable.”
Alex McDade, Sales Director at Mac’s, confirms demand is already strong:
“The first FH Aero with the hidden system is pre-sold and entering body build now. Customers love the 360° lifting, easier manoeuvrability on tight sites, and the cleaner look. When we launched the system on DAF trucks, orders surged, and we’re seeing the same with the Aero.”
