Advanced eHGV charging solutions provider offers first public look at new chargepoint design for HGV fleet electrification

Voltempo, the UK-based advanced electric heavy goods vehicle (eHGV)charging solutions specialist, is set to make its Road Transport Expo (RTX) debut this summer, unveiling its new chargepoint that forms part of its revolutionary HyperCharger Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology, at the UK's premier road transport event.

Taking place from 24-26 June 2025 at NAEC Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, RTX visitors can discover how Voltempo's innovative approach to EV infrastructure is helping to accelerate the transition to Net Zero transportation across the logistics sector. The company will showcase one of the 6 chargepoints being installed with each HyperCharger system under the eFreight2030 programme, giving visitors the opportunity to experience its ergonomics and design simplicity first hand, with both CCS and MCS connectors displayed on stand.

Leading the charge for HGV electrification

As the project lead in the groundbreaking eFREIGHT 2030 consortium – part of the UK government’s £200m Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme (ZEHID) – Voltempo is implementing the largest deployment of eHGV HyperCharger sites for UK logistics fleet operators. At RTX, Voltempo will be showcasing its end-to-end service offering that encompasses site selection, grid connection approval and installation, charging infrastructure, and ongoing operations, maintenance and optimisation.

Michael Boxwell, CEO of Voltempo, commented: "We're excited to make our debut at RTX 2025 and showcase our HyperCharger chargepoint for the first time to the wider road transport sector. With HGVs representing just 1% of vehicles on UK roads but accounting for 20% of transport emissions, the electrification of commercial fleets is crucial to meeting our climate goals.

“Our future-proofed HyperCharger technology offers an incredibly versatile approach to managing EV fleet charging, whether that's rapid charging to maximise vehicle utilisation or overnight charging to benefit from lower electricity prices or even both at the same time," he added.

Knowledge Zone presentation

In addition to the Voltempo stand presence, Michael Boxwell will be presenting in the RTX Knowledge Zone, providing an update on the pioneering eFREIGHT 2030 project. The consortium, which includes OEMs, fleet operators, route & vehicle optimisation/efficiency software providers, researchers, and retailers, is developing 35 sites across UK logistics fleet depots, with approximately 210 charging bays to support the transition of around 100 electric HGVs initially.

"The eFREIGHT 2030 project represents a significant step toward decarbonising the UK's logistics sector," added Boxwell. "By the end of the trial in 2031, our aim is to have rolled out 3,000-4,000 electric HGVs onto UK roads, established over 500 HGV charging hubs, and delivered annual reductions of 140,000 tonnes of CO2 and 57 million litres of diesel. I'm looking forward to sharing our progress and insights at RTX."

Futureproofing fleet infrastructure

Founded in 2019 and based in Tyseley, East Birmingham, Voltempo’s innovative, British designed and developed UK-patented charging solutions address the complex challenges of electrifying commercial vehicle fleets.

Visitors to the Voltempo stand will learn how the company's dynamic HyperCharger technology can deliver 1MW of power either concentrated to a single charging bay for rapid charging in just 30 minutes or dynamically distributed across multiple bays, with up to six chargepoints operating in parallel to maximise efficiency and save on energy costs – providing unmatched flexibility for fleet operators.

The Voltempo team will be on hand to discuss how they can help road haulage and logistics operators navigate the transition to electric vehicles, managing everything from site feasibility studies and grid connections to installation, ongoing maintenance and optimisation
