Labcraft boosts night-time safety for Colin Lawson Transport with Banksman BM3 Kit

Published on 17 Jun 2026 • 4 min read

Labcraft has supplied a Banksman BM3 harness kit to Colin Lawson Transport, helping to improve visibility and safety during vehicle manoeuvring in low-light conditions.

The plug-and-play harness allows for quick, reliable installation, ensuring drivers can fully benefit from the enhanced rear and perimeter illumination provided by the Banksman system.

Aberdeen-based Colin Lawson Transport operates a mixed fleet comprising around 50 vehicles across challenging environments. The company specialises in general and heavy haulage, energy sector logistics, crane support, and the transport of oversized or hazardous loads. Safe manoeuvring is essential, says the company, especially at night and in confined spaces.

The Labcraft Banksman BM3 system, used by Colin Lawson Transport, is designed to overcome the limitations of conventional reversing lights. By projecting high-intensity light downwards and around the vehicle, it creates a clear, even “carpet” of illumination behind the truck, reducing shadows and blind spots.

Producing around 956 lumens and covering over 20 square metres, the system is well known in the industry for enabling safer, more precise vehicle manoeuvring.

Before we had the Banksman Lighting Kit, I was relying purely on the rear work lights, and half the time I felt like I was reversing into darkness,

comments a driver from Colin Lawson Transport.

You’re trying to judge shadows, guess distances, and hope nothing’s sitting in a blind spot.

Since the new lighting went on, it’s a completely different experience. The whole area behind the truck lights up properly, and I can actually see what I’m working with. It takes so much stress out of night manoeuvres and makes me feel far more confident and in control. It’s one of those upgrades you don’t realise you need until you’ve used it. Now I wouldn’t want to drive without it.

The harness kit further enhances the system by simplifying installation, improving reliability, and reducing downtime. Its robust design withstands moisture, vibration, and temperature extremes, ensuring consistent performance across the fleet.

Installation for Colin Lawson Transport was carried out by Norscot Truck and Van, a long-established DAF dealer and service partner based in Aberdeen. The company has been serving the commercial vehicle sector since 1982, offering full truck sales, maintenance, parts and support through its Bridge of Don location and wider dealer network across Scotland.

Meanwhile, the Labcraft Banksman lighting solutions are available in four models: BM2, BM3, BM4, and BM6. All deliver additional bright light around the vehicle, helping drivers manoeuvre confidently in both open and confined spaces.

With over 30,000 installations to date, from single vehicles including rigids and trailers up to 13.6 metres, to large fleets, operators report that safer manoeuvring has resulted in measurable reductions in accident damage and vehicle downtime.

The Banksman BM3 lighting system and harness kit, says Labcraft, provide a practical, compliant, and scalable solution to enhance safety, protect vehicles, and support driver confidence in demanding operational settings.
